SSL Certificates

We support free SSL Certificates from Let's Encrypt. Most of our customers use these, they work as good as Comodo or RapidSSL certificates.

Extended Validation (EV) Certificates

If you wish to display your company name in the browser address bar, you need an EV Certificate. To obtain one, the official name of your organization must match exactly with the domain name owner. If the domain is used for a country other than yours, displaying the official company name may have a negative impact as visitors will see your company is outside their own country.

Do we sell Extended Validation certificates?

Yes, you can purchase an EV certificate through billing.savvii.com.
During login, click on the "Bestel" button and select SSL.
If no Certificate Signing Request (CSR) is provided during ordering, one may be generated for you.
We will mail you instructions for any necessary DNS records for validation.

Let's Encrypt Certificates

To obtain a Let's Encrypt Certificate for your domain:

  1. Check the current Time To Live (TTL) of the DNS records for your main and www subdomains.
  2. Set the TTL of the DNS records to 300 seconds.
  3. Wait until the previous value of the TTL has passed, ensuring that any cached information is no longer being used.
  4. Update the DNS of your domain to point towards the hosting account's IP address. For live domains, we recommend setting up a CNAME record for the www subdomain pointing back to your main domain.
  5. Confirm that the DNS resolves to our server's IP address.

Once these steps are complete, you can easily add domains to the certificate using our mnage tool:

mnage ssl:domains:add {domain1} {domain2}

This command checks your domain settings and if they pass, it adds your domain to the certificate. Since we check a lot of points against the original name server (CAA, IPV4/IPV6, validation with a file,...), the command might have a small delay depending on how fast our queries get a response.

Warning: when switching domains, make sure you add the new domain to the certificate before removing the A/AAAA record of the old one. Use mnage ssl:domains:remove after adding the new domain.
