Backups

Running an online business necessitates a reliable system of backups in order to recover from any data loss incidents promptly and efficiently. We encourage our customers to employ our scripts to create their own backups, ensuring they are regularly updated. For detailed guidance on backup creation and restoration, please refer to the following resources:

In contrast, we at Savvii take the responsibility of ensuring data recovery in case any disaster strikes our infrastructure. Here's what we do:

Local Backups

We support a one-week retention period for backups. Daily around 01:00h a full backup is made of the complete server, split into various parts.

  • All important files from the servers' OS are stored in separate backup files.
  • Home directories of our customers are backed up and stored in separate backup files.
  • A MySQL dump is created for each database.

All backups are done incrementally. A full backup is made every weekday, while only newer/different files are included in daily backups following the first full backup. After a week has passed, a new full backup is initiated and the old one is deleted from the hosting server.

Encryption

All our backups are encrypted at creation using GPG with a private key unique to each server. The private key resides on the particular server itself. A passphrase for decrypting these backups is required, which are only accessible by Savvii engineers.

Offsite Backups

We manage our offsite backups with Acronis, The Acronis. server do not possess the decryption keys or passphrases needed to access these backups.

These offsite backup servers retain copies of files for 14 days.
